About
For my retirement, I don’t have a private jet to fly all over the world. I don’t have a yacht to sail to tropical islands. But I do have a Honda Civic I can drive to cornhole tournaments throughout the country.
Not long ago, I had a house that was paid for in Central Illinois, comfortably furnished, with a workshop in the garage and a nice yard. I even had a cornhole court / putting green in the back that I spent a previous summer building by hand.
Why would I sell the house, get rid of most my belongings, and rent a small space in another state just so I could be free to travel around playing cornhole? Am I just nuts? While there may be ample evidence to support that theory, I suspect others that love the game need little explanation, and might even be a bit envious.
Cornhole is a simple, yet challenging game. It is not physically demanding. People of all ages, genders, and physiques can play well, and it is highly addictive. But the best part is the community.
The game has a way of bringing people together from all walks of life. In the short time it takes to play a game, you can make a new friend that likely you’ll see time and again as you go to different tournaments. It is amazing how a bag thrown in the right spot at the right time can win a game and make you friends for life with your partner.
I also had other motives with the move. I had lived in the Nashville area before, and always wanted to move back. The weather, the parks, and especially the music there made it more desirable to me. Having less stuff gives more freedom. I don’t have to worry about mowing, raking, shoveling snow, or frozen pipes while I’m traveling.
I plan to play least one cornhole tournament in each state over the course of the next year or so. As I start this blog, I have already played in eleven states. Also, hiking a state or national park in each is another goal, as is writing about my adventures to possibly inspire others to do the same.
So you can look upon this as a travel blog for cornhole addicts. I will be sharing about the places I play, the sites along the way, and the unique experiences. I will also share links to tournaments, travel tips, and other information that might benefit anyone else with similar ambitions.
Hopefully I can help someone to smile, to dream, or to chuckle – to help offset all the bad news we all are bombarded with these days. If I can do that, I will see my efforts as worthwhile.
